Google Keyword Tool – New Search Numbers

I use both the Google Keyword Tool directly as well as Micro Niche Finder. Has anyone else noticed that they seemed to change the columns that are returned recently? The first column is local search volume for the last month. That means it would be only the country that you have chosen (defaults to US). The second column is an average for the year for the whole Google network for all countries! That means you have to intrepret the results a little bit differently. Sometimes the average global search will be low but the US search will be high. I think you have to take that into consideration and not just go with the average global. Some things Americans search for that other countries don’t so I think there is the potential to still do well. So don’t ignore that first column when doing keyword research!

I noticed this while buying domains this week for my new sniper sites. Essentially I got the British 2 word phrase and the American 2 word phrase for the exact same thing. We’ll see how it works out!

  • Hey, I clicked on your link from the niche blogger forum. Interesting, I noticed that change as well. I’m in the UK, but I think I probably need to pay attention to the US data (which means changing the search location EVERY time!) because that’s where the bulk of the traffic is. Wonder how much difference it will make to us finding profitable niches? Hope yours goes well!
